Rutronik expands Hall effect sensor portfolio

Rutronik has expanded its range of Hall effect sensors with the introduction of the Micronas HAL 302x family from TDK, designed to measure vertical magnetic field components (BZ).

This family includes two sensor models, HAL 3020 and HAL 3021, tailored for fast angle determination and offering solutions for stray field robust motor position detection and ISO 26262-compliant development.

The HAL 302x series features differential or single-ended sine and cosine analog outputs with integrated open-circuit detection. Additionally, the rotation angle of a solenoid can be calculated using an external A/D converter and a microcontroller or ECU. These sensors are now available at Rutronik24.

The unique arrangement of the Hall plates in these sensors enables effective suppression of external magnetic stray fields. A simple two-pole magnet in an end-of-shaft configuration is sufficient to measure the absolute angular position, with the magnet positioned either above or below the sensor. The Hall plate array’s measuring principle helps minimise errors caused by supply voltage and temperature fluctuations.

An integrated signal path allows the HAL 302x’s non-volatile memory (EEPROM) to be programmed, enabling adjustments to sine and cosine signal amplification, offset, (absolute) 0-angle, orthogonality, and bandwidth. Programming is done via the sensor’s output pin, eliminating the need for an additional programming connection.

The HAL 302x family includes integrated diagnostic functions such as overvoltage and undervoltage detection, as well as wire breakage monitoring during normal operation. The sensors, housed in SOIC8 SMD packages, are suitable for both automotive and industrial applications due to their extensive certifications and high-temperature capability.
