Rochester Electronics, NXP extended support for processors

Rochester Electronics is partnering with NXP to provide extended lifecycle support for the QorIQ (Power Architecture-based) P-Series processors, a proven processor product.

NXP introduced the P-Series 2008 as a migration path for its popular PowerQUICC processors. The P-Series was based on a Power Architecture e500 CPU core. The initial selection offered single and dual-core solutions with up to 1.2GHz performance. Its performance and peripheral mix made these devices popular in networking and telecom applications, and many industrial and military applications also capitalised on their capabilities.

Through 2012, NXP continued to develop and expand the series, adding quad and octal-core versions. After the release of the P5 devices based on an e5500 core, NXP opted to use ARM Cortex cores in future devices and released its LS Series. Although NXP continued to support the P Series, its Power Architecture offering effectively reached the end of the line


Recently, NXP received notice from its foundry that the P-Series could no longer be produced, and it issued a last-time-buy (LTB) notification. To help mitigate product obsolescence and provide ongoing customer support, Rochester has acquired P-Series device inventory to meet demands that exceed LTB expectations.

Additionally, the series offers considerable software and hardware compatibility, providing options for functional and pin-compatible alternatives when exact part number matches are no longer available.
