Tariffs will not affect customers, says Triad Magnetics

With its diversified portfolio of power electronics manufacturing plants located in the US, and the Philippines, Triad Magnetics has said that the vast majority of its customers need not fear the financial impact of increasing trade import tariffs from China, Mexico, and Canada.

Triad Magnetics President Bill Dull said: “I want to assure our customers that Triad is uniquely positioned within the power electronics industry with volume manufacturing facilities in the Philippines, where we now manufacture nearly all of our transformer and inductor products. We have also just opened a new US design and manufacturing facility in California, for custom, small-batch ‘made in the USA’ products. We are well prepared in terms of capacity to meet the needs of our customers without price increases during these uncertain times.

“Critical to our readiness for this situation is Triad’s certified Business Continuity Management System, which conforms to ISO 22301 and protects our stakeholders in the event of natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances, such as trade tensions. Our customers will now be the recipients of Triad’s years of preparation to put this planning and certification process into effect.”

The company’s Philippines Plant is located in the suburban city of Carmona, which is within one hour of Manilla and offers convenient access to air freight and port shipping facilities. At this plant, Triad manufactures audio, current sense and various power transformers, as well as its inductors, chokes, and custom magnetic components.

Triad today employs 1,200 people at its Philippines plant. The highly trained staff operates state-of-the-art coil winding equipment, as well as ferrite gapping machines, lamination welding equipment and automated testing devices. The plant is certified to some of the world’s most demanding performance and quality standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001 and TS 16949.

At the Philippines Plant, Triad has implemented efficient cellular manufacturing system that reduces material handling and process cycle times for delivery of small and mid-sized production lots. This award-winning plant has been recognised by Triad’s customers for its quality, value and on-time delivery record, with a production capacity of 1.5 million transformers per week, Triad excels at supporting high-mix customers who require a wide variety of wound components with small to large production volumes.

Beginning in 2010, Triad identified the Philippines as an attractive alternative manufacturing location. The company recognised the advantages to its growing power electronics business of manufacturing in the Philippines because of the nation’s stable labour force, favourable currency exchange rates and business-friendly political climate.

In addition to standard products, Triad’s US Design and Manufacturing Centre in Perris, California, provides custom design services with rapid design, prototyping and testing. With an in-house manufacturing team ready to build small-batch products, Triad’s expanded production facility is positioned to support customers at all stages of the design process. Certification is available for products to UL and many other global standards, including UL Insulation System Classes B (130ºC) through R (220ºC), FCC Part 68, CSA, ISO9001-2015 and ISO22301-2012, TUV, VDE, CE, IEC, CSA, Mil-T-27E and more.

From the beginning in the 1950s, Triad Magnetics quickly became known for its quality, service and value. Triad first helped Leo Fender and surf guitarist Dick Dale turn up the volume on amplifiers, which led to the birth of Rock & Roll. Triad was next the dominant supplier to the TV industry in the 1960s. It also supported the Apollo mission to the Moon and then the first microwave ovens in the 1970s.

The Triad Magnetics brand in the 1980-90’s played a leading role in the rise of modern industrial automation and controls, electronic ballasts for lighting systems and innovative medical devices. Later on, Triad products were essential in the mobile communications revolution, along with the introduction of power supplies in the 2000s and products for the Internet of Things (IoT) beginning in the 2010’s.

Triad Magnetics is conveniently located in a modern, 38,000 square foot design engineering and production centre in the Southern California city of Perris on the Interstate 215/15 corridor. It is a subsidiary of the Axis Corporation, an electronics industry leader listed on the Taiwan stock market.
