Tata and ADI explore semiconductor manufacturing in India

Tata Group and Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at exploring collaborative opportunities in manufacturing.

This partnership includes Tata Electronics, Tata Motors, and Tejas Networks, who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ADI. The goal is to deepen their strategic and business cooperation, exploring avenues for semiconductor manufacturing within India and leveraging ADI’s advanced technology in Tata’s applications such as electric vehicles (EVs) and network infrastructure. The companies will also engage in strategic discussions to align their roadmaps for future development.

This collaboration is viewed as a major step toward building a stronger electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India, positioning the country as a key player in both domestic and global markets.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed his enthusiasm: “The Tata Group is deeply committed to pioneering a thriving semiconductor industry in India. We are excited to partner with ADI across the semiconductor value chain and explore collaboration between ADI and Tata Group companies to design and offer advanced products to serve our customers.”

Vincent Roche, CEO and Chair at ADI, added: “At ADI, we are thrilled to join efforts with the Tata Group in advancing India’s semiconductor ecosystem. This joint effort aligns with our commitment to innovation and sustainable growth in the region. By combining our real-world semiconductor solutions and software expertise with Tata’s vision and capabilities, we can accelerate the development of cutting-edge technologies, from electric vehicles to next-generation network infrastructure. Together, we are not only building a stronger semiconductor ecosystem but also shaping the future of global electronics manufacturing.”

The partnership also highlights Tata Electronics’ plans to expand its facilities, including the construction of India’s first semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, with a significant $11 billion investment. In addition, Tata is investing $3 billion in a new greenfield facility in Jagiroad, Assam, which will focus on the assembly and testing of semiconductor chips.

As part of the agreement, Tata Electronics and ADI will explore the possibility of manufacturing ADI’s products at Tata’s fab in Gujarat and the OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility in Assam. Tata Motors and ADI will examine opportunities for collaboration in developing electronics hardware components, particularly in energy storage and power electronics for commercial and passenger vehicles. Tejas Networks and ADI will focus on engaging in network infrastructure hardware components.
