Company profile: Fineline PCB

Fineline Global is a specialist provider of printed-circuit boards (PCBs) with a particular emphasis on high-density interconnect (HDI) technologies. It supplies a broad range of PCB types – from conventional multilayer boards to flexible and rigid-flex formats – enabling narrow conductive traces and tight spacing that support device miniaturisation, capabilities that are particularly valuable in applications that require compact form factors alongside dependable electrical and mechanical performance.

History and global presence

Fineline Global was founded in 2007, following the merger of Fineline GmbH (Germany) and Aviv PCB & Technologies (Israel), originally established in 1991 and 2002, respectively. Since then, the group has grown through a combination of expansions and acquisitions, with its network spanning 13 regional offices across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Today, Fineline employs over 350 people globally, serving customers in more than 50 countries.

In recent years, the group has continued to expand its footprint, such as in 2024, when it acquired IBR Leiterplatten GmbH & Co. KG, strengthening its presence in Germany and the DACH region.

Portfolio and capabilities

Fineline has a wide PCB offering, which includes standard multilayer boards, flexible and rigid-flex PCBs, and advanced HDI structures. This variety allows the company to support applications across a wide range of sectors, from consumer electronics and wearables to automotive control units and industrial systems, among others. Its ability to deliver rigid, flexible or hybrid (rigid-flex) boards means that customers can match board technology to the demands of their application.

For its HDI and other advanced boards, Fineline uses precise manufacturing techniques such as laser direct imaging (LDI). LDI uses a digitally guided laser to expose photoresist directly on copper. This improves fine feature accuracy and ensures tight layer-to-layer registration. This precision allows narrow trace widths and tight spacing, enabling compact circuit architecture without compromising on performance.

Supply chain, logistics, and engineering support

As well as a PCB manufacturer, Fineline is also a supply-chain solutions partner, offering end-to-end support – from design-for-manufacturability, stack-up reviews, materials selection and tolerancing, through to final delivery and lifecycle management. This includes matching customer requirements with the most appropriate manufacturing site. For example, whether the requirement is for prototype or volume production, or for specialised board formats.

The company uses a network of vetted partner factories (primarily in Asia, but with reach also in Europe and beyond). Customers benefit from consolidated logistics, customs support, and local-language assistance via regional offices. This global logistics capability facilitates supply to many markets worldwide.

Sustainability and long-term serviceability

Committed to environmentally responsible operations, the Fineline Group uses energy-efficient equipment and heat-recovery processes, treats wastewater to reduce chemical discharge, and supports resource efficiency through material choices such as halogen-free laminates and copper recycling.

In addition, Fineline offers lifecycle services beyond initial fabrication – including tooling maintenance, technology updates, and continuity planning – aimed at helping customers with products that have extended service lives or long redesign cycles.

Market sectors served

Fineline serves a broad range of industries, including automotive, medical, industrial automation, communications, and consumer electronics. The diversity of its portfolio – and its capability to deliver rigid, flexible, or hybrid boards, along with HDI and robust materials – allows the company to meet different sector requirements. For instance, automotive PCBs may need to withstand thermal cycling and vibration, medical devices often demand documentation and traceability during production, whereas industrial systems may require long-term support and availability.

This breadth means that Fineline is positioned as a versatile supplier that can support customers globally from very different segments, not only with their PCB requirements, but with the logistics to make it work.

Electronics are continuing to shrink, and complex circularity is on the rise – that means the demand for precise PCB manufacturing will also rise. Fineline’s combination of HDI expertise, broad manufacturing and partner network, engineering support, and sustainability focus positions it well to meet this growing demand. Its global reach and supply-chain infrastructure offer additional resilience – attributes that matter as supply-chain volatility and regulatory pressure mount.
