The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported that global semiconductor industry sales reached $149.9 billion in the second quarter of 2024, marking an 18.3% increase from the same period in 2023 and a 6.5% rise over the first quarter of 2024.
Sales for June 2024 alone totalled $50.0 billion, reflecting a 1.7% increase compared to May’s figure of $49.1 billion. These monthly sales figures, compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organisation, are based on a three-month moving average. The SIA represents nearly the entire US semiconductor industry by revenue and approximately two-thirds of international semiconductor companies.
SIA President and CEO John Neuffer commented: “The global semiconductor market remained strong during the second quarter of 2024, with quarter-to-quarter sales increasing for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2023. Sales in the month of June were up both month-to-month and year-to-year, with the Americas market leading the way with growth of 42.8% compared to June 2023.”
Regional performance varied, with the Americas recording significant year-on-year growth of 42.8%, followed by China (21.6%) and Asia Pacific/All Other (12.7%). However, Japan and Europe saw declines of 5.0% and 11.2%, respectively. On a month-to-month basis, sales in June increased in the Americas (6.3%), Japan (1.8%), and China (0.8%), but experienced slight drops in Europe (-1.0%) and Asia Pacific/All Other (-1.4%).
