Raspberry Pi Pico 2 now available from Farnell

Farnell is now offering the newly launched Raspberry Pi Pico 2 to its customers.

The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 builds on the success of the original Pico while maintaining its compact footprint. This new version features the powerful RP2350 microcontroller, developed by Raspberry Pi, delivering a significant performance upgrade.

Compared to the previous RP2040 microcontroller, which debuted in 2021, the RP2350 boasts several enhancements: a 150MHz system clock (up from 133MHz), dual Arm Cortex-M33 cores (instead of dual Arm Cortex-M0+), dual Hazard3 RISC-V cores, 520KB of SRAM (versus 264KB), 8KB of on-chip antifuse OTP storage, and a robust security model based on Arm TrustZone for Cortex-M. It also offers improved power efficiency, making it a more powerful and versatile option for developers.

The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 pairs the RP2350 microcontroller with 4MB of on-board flash memory, doubling the storage capacity of its predecessor. This allows for ample space for code and data storage, enhancing the device’s versatility in various applications.

Eben Upton, CEO at Raspberry Pi said: “We are excited to be bringing to market our second-generation microcontroller, RP2350, and the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 single-board computer. Offering higher performance, lower power consumption, and greater security, these products provide our enthusiast and design engineer customers with an unparalleled platform for experimentation and innovation. We look forward to seeing what projects and products they create.”

Simon Wade, Senior Global Product Manager, Single Board Computing, at Farnell, said: “Raspberry Pi products remain as popular as ever with our customers and we are sure that this latest offering, the Raspberry Pi Pico 2, will be no different. The enhanced features deliver a real step-change compared with the original Pico and, with the launch of this innovative product, it is an exciting time for enthusiasts across the globe.”

The RP2350 microcontroller includes advanced security features such as OTP for boot configuration and key storage, ROM support for stage 2 bootloader authentication using a public key fingerprint, and infrastructure to support Arm TrustZone for Cortex-M, ensuring secure operations.

The peripheral set of the RP2350 is extensive, including 2 UARTs, 2 SPI controllers, 2 I2C controllers, 24 PWM channels, a USB 1.1 controller and PHY with host and device support, and 12 PIO state machines. Additionally, an improved QSPI interface supports double-banked cache for higher bandwidth, flash and PSRAM compatibility, burst transfers, odd clock divisors, and address translation.

Alongside the Raspberry Pi Pico 2, several third-party products designed with the RP2350 in mind are also being released, expanding the ecosystem of compatible tools and accessories.

Customers in the EMEA region can now order the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 from Farnell.
