Rochester ensures reliable memory support for transportation systems

Rochester Electronics is a global leader in semiconductor lifecycle solutions, providing 100% authorised, traceable, and guaranteed components

Rochester Electronics is a global leader in semiconductor lifecycle solutions, providing 100% authorised, traceable, and guaranteed components. With over 40 years of experience, Rochester specialises in sustaining the supply of end-of-life (EOL) and legacy semiconductors, ensuring that critical industries – including transportation – have access to essential components. Our comprehensive services include licensed manufacturing, long-term storage, and testing, making us a trusted partner for OEMs and system providers worldwide.

A key challenge in the transportation sector is maintaining and upgrading legacy electronic systems. Vehicles, rail networks, and aerospace applications often have extended service lifecycles, requiring continued support for mature technologies like parallel NOR Flash memory. These storage solutions are vital for onboard vehicle control units, navigation systems, infotainment modules, and safety-critical applications.

Sustaining parallel NOR Flash for the future of transportation

Rochester Electronics ensures continued market supply of parallel NOR Flash memory, which remains an essential component in transportation electronics. With a strategic acquisition of wafer stock, we are continuing production of 4 and 8Mb 5-volt NOR Flash memory, addressing the needs of industries reliant on long-term system stability.

Flash memory has played a crucial role in modernising transportation electronics, with parallel NOR Flash offering fast read speeds, high reliability, and easy access to all memory locations. At its
peak, suppliers such as Spansion, STMicroelectronics, Micron, Fujitsu, and Macronix dominated the market. However, as NAND and serial NOR Flash alternatives emerged, demand shifted, leading many manufacturers to discontinue legacy NOR Flash products.

Why choose Rochester Electronics?

  • 100% authorised and guaranteed – no counterfeit risk
  • Extensive inventory – over 15 billion die and finished components
  • Long-term supply assurance – supporting legacy systems for decades
  • In-house testing & manufacturing – ensuring quality and performance
